Bacardi has announced the U.S. release of its exclusive Bacardi Reserva Limitada rum, on sale this fall at select bars, restaurants, and fine spirits retailers across the country. Previously, this rare, award-winning reserve was only available in limited release in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and Aruba. The Reserva Limitada (aka the “Founder’s Blend”) was originally created by the Bacardi Maestro de Ron (Rum Master) as a personal blend for the Bacardi family, in honor of founder Don Facundo Bacardi Massó. It was first released to the public in 2003, to celebrate the opening of the Visitors Center at the Bacardi distillery.

Joaquin Bacardi III, head of the company’s business operations in Puerto Rico, says that the Reserva Limitada “was created to commemorate the patriarch of our family. Until now, to get a bottle, U.S. rum lovers had to travel to our distillery in Puerto Rico or one of just three other Caribbean islands. It’s fulfilling we can now bring this truly exceptional spirit to rum connoisseurs in the United States.”

The Reserva Limitada (40% ABV) is a blend of rums rested from 10 to 16 years in lightly-charred American white oak barrels. The creation of Bacardi Maestro de Ron Luis Planas is described as “a deep golden-hued rum with dark reddish undertones and a character symbolized by exquisite aromas of vanilla, oak and dried fruits that possesses a rich, smooth taste and velvety finish.” The Reserva Limitada is individually bottled, numbered and hand-sealed with a cork finish.

Initially, just 1000 cases (six 750ml bottles per case) of Bacardi Reserva Limitada will be available in the United States. Additional quantities are expected to be released to the U.S. in the future, based on availability. The suggested retail price of the Reserva Limitada is $110.00.
