This was a fantastic story to read. In November 2011, My wife and I had gone to a taping of the Conan O'brian show in Burbank and when trying to think of something to do afterward to wait out traffic she suggested we go to Demarest's new bar in Glendale. It was close enough that we could get there on side streets so we decided to stop in. It was pretty early in the evening still so the bar was empty and we got to have some quality time with Arash. From that first time just a few weeks after they'd opened we were trekking up from Orange County as often as possible to enjoy more of their newest scotches (our preferred poison at the time) all while talking about how great the place is. Even though we couldn't go as often as we would have liked we had our fair share of memories there right up to Arash's last evening behind the bar. We hope to find our way to Barrel Aged before too long and he has the chance to forget two of his biggest headaches (our first drinks on a busy night? One of his amazing egg white sours and a sazerac - don't think we'll ever live that one down). Glad to read more about his success up there.

I used to go to the Sushi restaurant that preceded "Barrel Aged". I was hoping for something different, and one afternoon, seeing Arash and Ashley working on the remodeling of the unit, I was happy to hear that not was there finally a bar in Martinez that would carry my favorite single malt, "Lagavulin", but much, much more fine spirits. In one other local bar, I over heard a couple folks predict the demise of "Barrel Aged", as if it was a mismatch for Martinez. I knew those two guys were not only sorely wrong, but completely out of touch with the area. The food is great and creative. The best Monte Cristo I've ever, even. Black peppered Salmon salad, moist thru and thru. Even the tastiest Steak and Grits dish. A great place to have a drink, eat, listen to music, etc...
