From Farm to Glass: Matthew Biancaniello’s Sublime Cocktails at the Library Bar

By thirstyinla On August 25, 2010 · 6 Comments · In Reviews
In a weekend post to his Facebook page, Matthew Biancaniello hinted at how much work goes into bartending at a big Hollywood bash like last Saturday’s Speakeasy event: “…up early ready to pick up 800 lavender stems and juice 600 lemons.” Keep in mind, this update was posted at 5am on the morning of the party. Biancaniello might end up with Popeye’s forearms if his profile continues to rise at the rate it has since he captured the title at last August’s Chartreuse Sweet 16 Competition. Coming from a distinctly non-culinary background, Biancaniello has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in a city teeming with talented bartenders. Angelenos have taken notice, giving him the most votes in the ongoing LA’s Best Bartender Contest.

Throwing it back a few years to an amazing conversation I had at @sevengrandla with two veteran @nasajpl engineers. The husband asked what I was drinking, which happened to be the legendary Historic Core by @drinks_in_fruits, impeccably made by @luciee_ee. I explained the backstory and they both wanted one, sight unseen. 🥃
Turns out the husband was working on two key Perseverance projects: the Ingenuity “helicopter” and MOXIE (Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment). 🚁👽
All of this to say that I miss sitting in front of John, Lucy and so many other bartenders - and having random, mind-blowing conversations in bars.

According to tradition, New Year’s Day sets the tone for the rest of the year. As we continue to stay safe at home, that means a lot of vinyl, movies in the queue, books on the nightstand, and a cocktail or three.
@barackobama posted today, “The arts have always been central to the American experience.” If you have the resources, you can support artists directly with @etsy or @bandcamp, as well as donating to vital nonprofits like @kcrw.
