It’s Single Malt Season at the Wine House

This month, two outstanding single malt tasting events are taking place within a week of each other at the Wine House. First is Glenfarclas, which has produced its award-winning single malt whiskies since 1836, and has been owned and managed by the Grant family since 1865. On October 5th, Brand Ambassador George S. Grant, who represents the sixth generation of his family at Glenfarclas, will be at Upstairs 2 to lead a tasting of the Glenfarclas 10, 12, 15, 17, 21, 25, 40-year and 105 Cask Strength expressions.

Of particular interest is the Glenfarclas 40 Years Old (46% ABV), bottled from casks filled in the late 1960s and considered a true value for its age at a retail price of $500 per bottle. The Wine House calls the 40-year “lush and immaculate,” and notes that the color is “spectacular–dark amber with red hues,” with an aroma “full of chocolate, raisins, prunes and touches of mint and licorice.”

Tickets to the tasting will also include a buffet with gastropub cuisine by Upstairs 2 Executive Chef Todd Barrie:

  • Grilled Cheese on Brioche – Fontina, Gruyere and Goat Cheese
  • Sea Bean Salad – Yellow Teardrop Tomatoes, Frisée, Crispy Garbanzos and Lemon Dressing
  • Smoked Salmon on Potato Pancake – Dill, Crème Fraiche
  • Herb Crusted Veal Chops – Red Wine Sauce
  • Portobello Mushroom Ravioli – Wild Mushroom Parmesan Broth

Not quite a week after the Glenfarclas tasting, the Wine House will host the acclaimed single malts of India’s Amrut Distilleries. Last October, Amrut (the “Elixir of Life” in Indian mythology) gained considerable notoriety when Jim Murray named Amrut Fusion the world’s third best whisky in his Whisky Bible 2010. Murray said that Amrut Fusion “has to be one of the great whiskies found anywhere in the world this year,” and its Indian origins are “irrelevant, from distillation to maturation this is a genius whisky from whichever continent.”

Amrut’s Executive Director will be pouring these expressions:

  • Amrut Single Malt
  • Amrut Peated Single Malt
  • Amrut Fusion
  • Amrut Cask Strength Single Malt
  • Amrut Cask Strength Peated Single Malt

And if the tastes aren’t enough to entice you to reach for your wallet, Wine House is offering a 10% discount on purchases of Amrut Single Malts the day of the tasting.
