Over the centuries, Fernet-Branca has been used as a digestif, hair of the dog, “bartender’s spinach,” cocktail ingredient, and more. The herbaceous amaro can now add “fundraiser for a Nobel Prize-winning nonprofit” to the list on Monday, October 3rd, when Fernet, Tattoos and Good Times takes place at Harvard & Stone.
From 8pm to close, Fernet shots are $5 each, and $1 from each shot is being donated to Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the international medical humanitarian organization. But wait, there’s more: four LA bartenders are going to show their love for Fernet (or their complete lack of judgment) by getting tattooed with the Fernet logo. One can only hope an MSF representative will be in the house…
Monday night will be another stop on the LA leg of a nationwide Fernet-Branca Tour that features a distinctively designed Fernet-Branca Bus, “purveyor of the unusual, the unique and the mysteriously rewarding.” The bus kicked off its LA swing with a 213 Nightlife bar crawl last Wednesday, and has since been spotted all over town.
Unlike many of your favorite bartenders, the Mystery Bus doesn’t run on Fernet, but is “powered by tweets.” The idea is to get keep the Twitter conversation going and bring the bus to your area. Follow @FernetBranca on Twitter and stay tuned to see where the bus will show up next.
